Why nature-based early learning?
Our programs are designed to support play as learning, strong communities, and children’s life-long connections to the natural world. Surrounded by a warm and caring atmosphere, respectful of each child’s individuality, our all outdoors programs support the developing social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs of all young children:
Inclusive circles with a 1:5 teacher to child ratio
An approach that honors the whole child
Loving guidance & support from our educators
An awareness and appreciation for nature
A sense of belonging and community
The creation of a childhood landscape that is rich and memorable
Freedom to create and direct their own learning and creative interests
Are the programs completely outdoors, rain or shine?
Yes! This is why appropriate clothing is so important. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you need help with acquiring proper outdoor gear. There are open shelters at our program locations if cover is needed during a hard rain. Our Art and Garden program does spend some time working on projects inside the small Art Studio building.
Here’s a clip of Richard Louv, leader of The New Nature Movement, speaking about the vital connection between nature and learning:
